Schmidt's Wholesale
is one of Central New York State's largest single-location
wholesalers. Schmidt's was using ADP, and wanted to automate order
fulfillment and get in control of their inventory. Since adopting DDi System
in 2001, Schmidt's has more then met these goals, streamlining their
workflow, significantly increasing both inventory turns and fill ratios.
“DDi System picks out inventory items that fall underneath the radar screen,” said Chris
Schmidt, owner. “These products are potential lost sales because if you don’t
have it, nobody’s going to buy it.”
Schmidt said he originally chose the DDI System because of the personal relationship the vendor gave his business. When he discovers a missing function or issue with his system, he calls the support or management team and discusses a solution to be implemented into the next complimentary upgrade.
The DDI Software now includes a CRM module which allows the user to store detailed history, contact notes and scheduling tools for customers and vendors. DDI's
version 19 incorporates many multi-location inventory enhancements.
Schmidt's is using automated branch replenishment and can now split sales order items by warehouse. Other features include remote warehouse/location pick tickets, the staging of stock transfers, and advanced accounting features by branch.
The wholesaler recently started using the automated special order
management function, which allows it to build, accumulate and
stage special orders with a series of screens providing all of the
information for special orders onto a single screen. This information
includes dates and times orders are procured and delivered,
purchase order numbers and detailed expediting notes. On-screen
text messaging with task and reminder notifications is integrated into the system to automatically direct alerts to users on changes in the status of a special order.

Schmidt’s is also currently working on implementing bar coding technology in its warehouse.
